A leader in developing modern Physical (Biological) Anthropology and its application to current world/societal problems, Wilton Marion Krogman was born in Illinois in 1903. His academic background and work at the University of Chicago, and then the University of Pennsylvania provided expertise, and significant fame as an expert within anthropological, medical, and medico-legal domains. Krogman was a founder of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, and provided his contributions in this area to the audiences of the FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin and laid the foundations for the growth of Forensic Anthropology. In 1987, Bill Krogman died in Lititz, Pennsylvania.
Krogman published several of his works in the FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin. This raised awareness in the growing scientific investigation of crime and identity across the nation. The 1939 feature article on the identification of skeletal remains was a major contribution and served as the primary reference for American Graves Registration staff in and after WWII.
